Backgammon tournaments - around the world game play
If you've ever dreamed of journeying to new places,
testing your skills and strategy, meeting new people from all over the
world; and, perhaps, winning a prize or two - offline backgammon
tournaments may be your cup of tea.
Any given day there are backgammon tournaments - private games, local
clubs, 'big money' national events and international weekends.
Without 'showing favorites' there are a few in the upcoming calendar
that seem mighty attractive. For example, the 7th International
Backgammon Tournament, Paris Master & Open (www.ezegames.com)
that's coming up March 1-5. Of course, if you live in Paris - you're
there! If you've not enjoyed the cuisine and hospitality of
brasseries, this would be a fine time, after tournament play to stroll
and explore.
There are several categories/divisions of play available; including:
* Master
* Open
* Advanced
* Intermediate
* Beginner
* Double consultation
Later that same month, wing your way to Lisle, Illinois, for the 2006
Midwest Backgammon Championships, March 17-19 (www.chicagopoint.com/2006mbc.html).
This event is part of the American Backgammon Tour. Free MBC t-shirts
to all main event entrants and a special retro game board and set will
be taken home by a special group from the Doubloon-Gammon. Let the
backgammon ... roll!
March 30-April 2, finds us near Munich, Germany, at the Tegernsee -
Open (www.bg-info.de/kaiserbrunnen)
in Bad Wiessee. In addition, there is the Vorrunden des Deutschen
Amateur - Cup. The accommodations are right out of a picture book.
With a 'double header' of play that weekend, Bad Wiessee seems a very
good place to begin the month of April.
If you have time, check out what's happening with tournaments
sponsored by the Swiss Backgammon Association (www.backgammon.cc/).
Back your suitcases appropriately, because between April 8-30, you'll
be in Mont-Blanc (France), Helsingor (Denmark) and Miami (US).
Respectively:
* April 8-14, 1er Trophee de Backgammon du Mont-Blanc (www.as-organisation.com)
* April 12-17, 18th Nordic Wide Open Backgammon Tournament (www.nordicopen.dk/)
* April 23-30, BG Masters Backgammon Cruise (www.grandexplorer.com/bgm2006cruise.htm)
Each tournament has its' rules and regulations that will vary,
somewhat, from place to place. However diverse the country of play,
the skill and strategy of the game is universal and intense.
After that intense tournament schedule, it's time for a bit of a
breather until May 19-21, when we're off to Velden, Austria, for the
WBF Golden Circuit 2006, 18th European Backgammon Championship and the
5th Velden Backgammon Open (www.wbfonline.com).
The next few months are a flurry of backgammon tournaments:
* Brakel (near Paderborn), Germany (www.bg-info.de/kaisserbrunned)
* Aix les Bains (Savoie), France (www.ezegames.com)
* Los Angeles, California US (http:users.adelphia.net/~pgibsonmfic)
* Seattle, Washington US (www.backgammonnorthwest.com)
* London UK (www.backpacker-backgammon.com/camden/home.html)
* Las Vegas, Nevada US (http://nvbg.com)
Through all your journys and new experiences, new people and places -
remember to explore where you are, after the game play is over for the
day; and to have fun
