Backgammon roll over
In a week that sees the European lottery rollover to a
staggering 120 million pounds, what better suggestion to make for our
backgammon article than this one - Rollover.
This game follows the pattern of the lottery with the premise of the
idea being to roll over, or roll again. The lottery rollover is based
on not winning the jackpot in a given week and therefore it rolls over
to the next week, in backgammon rollover the idea is to make your
opponent roll again, or take his roll back, should he have achieved
the desired number.
Hence this question:
Have you ever wished, after rolling the worst possible number, that
you could just pick up your dice and roll again?
This is how to play it: Roll-over:
Once a game, each player has the option to either roll again if the
number's, he has thrown he doesn't want to use, or ask his opponent to
roll his dice again.
You can re-roll your own dice any time before you pick them up, to try
various plays before making your move. Or you can make him roll again,
before his turn finishes.
Once a player announces 'roll-over,' the roll is cancelled and any
moved checkers are restored. The player whose roll was cancelled then
rolls the dice again. If the opposition still has not used his
roll-over option, he can cancel the re-roll and the dice are rolled
yet again. In rare situations, dice could be rolled three times in one
turn.
The roll-over rule introduces another element to the game either to
use it early or wait, till the last moment, or maybe not all.
Marker
Using a roll-over marker is a good way to differentiate when playing
this game, decide before the game what marker suits you best.
Doubling
The doubling cube is used as in normal play, once a player has rolled
the dice; he may not double that turn. He must wait, even if he has
chosen to roll over and offer the cube next turn.
